Hear and Obey God’s Word
James, the brother of Jesus Christ, gave good instructions on the importance of hearing and obeying the Word. In James 1: 23-24, he uses the example of a man looking at himself in a mirror and then walking away forgetting what he looked like. The Word of God shows us ourselves as we really are along with all of our faults. If we read the Word, see where we need to do better, and choose to do nothing to change, then we our deceiving our own selves just as James said in verse 22.
When we hear and read the Word of God and make a decision to obey what we have heard, we are blessed of the Lord for not being forgetful hearers. We need to delight in the Word of God by constantly reading, praying, and meditating on it. When we obey, we will be prosperous in all that we set our hands to do. Psalm 1:3.
Being a Christian is a whole lot more than just professing Christianity. What kind of life are you living? Are you truly reading and obeying the Word of God or are you a Child of God in name only? We must ask ourselves these questions and be honest about what the answers really are. If the answers to those questions are unfavorable, we must change and ask the Lord to forgive us. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” John 1:9 ESV.
